My Goals for 2018

I don’t want to be that cheesy person who says their impossible new years resolutions in an ineffable long list that drops to the floor; then forgets about them after the third day of January. New year, new who?

And I’m not one of those people who waits until the new year to change. As humans we change everyday and make decisions that make our tomorrow one step closer to where we want to be in life. Every day is an opportunity to make new goals and new aspirations and interests in life. Got that one from Lilly Singh of course 😉

But it’s true that a new year can feel like a fresh start, a new found motivation to get things going. So, I’ve decided to write down a few of my recent changes that I’ve made, or trying to make, in my life so that my lifestyle is bettered and so that, in the words of Aquinas, I can ‘flourish’ as a human, also making my eternal end goal as a Muslim easier to meet. Hopefully you reading this will inspire you to make new goals and targets for yourself, so we can all become better versions of ourselves together!

  1. Lazy ways …

Procrastination. Procrastination. Procrastination. An actual disease! Don’t fall into the trap of wasting time, you’re only cheating yourself. Just think of it this way – you don’t know when your time is going to be up. Who told you that you have tomorrow to complete it? Who said you can wait until you’re older before you start taking it seriously? Why do you think next week is going to be any different to this week? Laziness is not a mood – it’s a stubborn habit that comes easily and is hard to discard. If you feel unmotivated today, chances are that laziness will follow you around again tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after that. You’re the only one that can lift the heavy burden of procrastination off of your shoulders. I suggest using various methods to help get yourself out of the endless cycle of nothingness. Lilly Singh (again, yes, she’s just too inspiring) told me about this 1, 2, 3 method in which you count to 3 in your head and then get on with whatever you’re supposed to be doing. It works! Or maybe bribe yourself by rewarding yourself after completing a task. Use reminders on your phones, set deadlines for everything you need to do that day. Be on the ball! It helps, trust me. And after a few weeks, I guarantee you’ll notice a change in yourself, and that’s when you know Laziness isn’t your friend anymore XD

2. My 6th Sense

Spirituality is like a sixth sense. I’ve come to realize the importance of peace of mind and serenity within. I’ve noticed the difference between tranquil, bright souls and restless souls in search for a purpose in life. It truly does have an effect on your day to day life.

Whenever I feel as though my morals are being questioned, or if doubts ever cross my mind, or if I feel less spiritually stable that day, I experience this 6th sense within me. It’s like my soul is creating a subtle sense of agitation behind my heart, tugging at my heart strings for freedom. OK wow that got deep. But that’s honestly the only way I can describe it. But then when I pray or meditate or just simply reflect on my thoughts – it’s like my heart is melting. And I’m at peace. Maybe this all sounds a bit messed up to you, but it truly is the power of your inner peace and what happens when you aren’t spiritually aware of yourself.

Finding your purpose in life and giving your soul, or inner spirit or whatever you believe in, the time to relax and be free will actually affect you physically and mentally. All three states – physical state, mental state and spiritual state are interlinked. If you’re feeling agitated or restless, give yourself that chance to wind down and meditate. A few moments of YOU time. And just see if it helps, I hope it will!

3. An organised space = Organised mind

Being organised isn’t a nerdy thing. It’s something I think everyone needs and has some concept of. Organizing your life has so many benefits. Keeping things in order will not only allow yourself to become more efficient when working but it will also raise your self confidence. When you know where everything is, you gain this sense of control over your day. A sense of accomplishment. And with this new level of self confidence, well, you can achieve a lot more things that you wouldn’t have done otherwise. And all with a big smile on your face because you are a well put together human being 🙂 Happy organizing ❤

4. 17 going on 18

As I’m growing older, it is inevitable that things are going to change. And that’s a good thing – but only if you’re ready for it. Being an a level student has been quite different to a secondary school student. I’ve got more freedom and a few ‘6th former’ privileges. And also a bit more responsibility and independence. Which is both good and bad. I have to make sure I’m in a good position to become more independent – or else I might actually curl up into a ball and break down. Confidence is key; the more I put myself out there, the easier it is to step outside of my comfort zone. It’s still a work in progress but I think I am getting somewhere. And maybe you’re already a confident person, yet still I’m sure you can challenge yourself, I dare you to 😉

5. You can choose your friends

I remember my mum telling me that I am who my friends are. And she’s right. I’ve noticed how significant our friends are when it comes to behaviour. Your company says a lot about you as a person. And they can either build you up or tear you down. Whenever your around good people that are positive and uplifting, their energy will rub off on you. Funny how people can affect people like that; social influence is quite powerful. Surround yourself with the right people and take notice of the difference it makes.

Well that’s all from me, if you made it to the end I take it you have learnt something from this, hope it’s helpful.

Have a happy new year xxx
