Have We Forgotten?

How foolish are we

to worship powerful people,

like there’s nothing beyond us.

Have we forgotten

Our place?

Why do we follow people,

when we know

that they are just people?

Are we perfect?

Have we forgotten Who has true power?

Have we forgotten Who is perfect,

because He created perfection?

Have we forgotten our Lord?

How careless to be

invested in this world,

like it’s all we’ll ever have.

Have we forgotten

Our purpose?

Why do we live for this world,

when we know

that it is just for two days?

Are we not souls?

Have we forgotten what is after death?

Have we forgotten Who gave us eternity,

because He is eternal?

Have we forgotten our Lord?

Have we really forgotten our Lord?

So I wrote this poem as a reminder to myself to never put this worldly life before my Akhirah (afterlife). I’ve come to realize how important it is to continuously remind myself of my purpose, and to see everything that happens in my life as all part of Allah’s plan, and to lay all of my trust into His great plan, because, SubhanAllah, He is always near and He truly does know what is best for us, even if we can’t see it at the time.

May we all stay connected and focused on our Akhirah, Ameen
